During the lockdown, we really avoided taking Rio outside for obvious reasons. We resorted to indoor activities, got him a bunch of toys and involving him with household chores.
We try our best to explain the situation to him and although we think he understands, we know he misses going out. He used to run around malls, supermarkets, and open parks on a weekly basis.
So after 8 months, we finally went out. Making sure we follow all safety protocols, wearing masks and frequently sanitizing our hands. We drove around. We ate take-out food in an open parking lot. We went to a wide open university park, walked around and looked for makahiya plants for him to touch. We let him run a bit, resulting in a booboo on his knee. We had a blast though.
Seeing him with a sweaty face, a wounded knee, and muddy shoes made us feel like he’s really experiencing what it feels like to be a child.
